The Maasai live in remote locations throughout the Serengeti in small huts as they migrate with the animals. Their wardrobe consists of browns and beiges to compliment the lions, giraffes, and zebra across Tanzania. The women have shaved heads with pierced and stretched earlobes with jewelry that plays a big part in their culture and also hold significant meaning. A few key colors are red = warrior/blood/bravery, white = peace, blue = water and Yellow symbolizes hospitality. Jewelries are an integral cultural aspect of the Maasai tribal community. It not only beautiful but it is also a means of expression as well as it gives an individual a sense of identity.
The jewelry design and color indicates the sub-group a person is from. It also indicates the status of a Maasai woman whether she is Single, engaged or married.
